  • Finally caught the Incredibles! Way better than Shark's Tale.
  • Company's end of year party. Casino tables! Chips only though, but had my fair share of fun with roulette and blackjack (me being the usual gambler).
  • Addicted to Juuni Kokki (aka Twelve Kingdoms). I jus love fantasy animes. Taiki is soooo cute!
  • Finished the San Guo Yan Yi (Romance of Three Kingdoms) drama series. Can't stand the stupid Ah Dou. Why did Liu Bei have such a useless son? Poor Zhuge Liang and Jiang Wei.
  • Watched Mamma Mia on the very last day. Not too fantastic, but not too bad either. Best performance would be the Dancing Queen part (partially cos it's my fav ABBA song). Felt that the daughter's voice was too whiny but kudos to the mother: her voice was totally powerful and solid.
  • Amazing Race 6. So sad Lena & Kristy were out due to pure bad luck. I tot they were one of the better teams. And I can't stand Jonathon, he's so bitchy! Wonder how Victoria can tolerate him.
  • My hamster died. Not as sad this time round cos expected it. Think I wun keep pets again though. I've got some hamster beddings, food and a cage left, so lemme noe if any of u wans them.

Sugababes - Caught In A Moment
Your stare swallows me
And I can hardly breathe
I feel it's dangerous,
Could be deadly
Somehow I'm willing to do the things you want
Take me in your arms
Spoon-feed my heart and

Drip by drip
I'll take it all
Sip by sip
I guess that it's
Make or break
Boy here and now

We're caught in a moment
And I won't let it go
I am falling deeper, losing my control
Involved in a feeling
Like the blink of an eye
And the silence it belongs to you and I

Broke through barriers
And passed a state of mind
I'm not scared no more
It feels divine
So take me in
And catch me when I fall
I'm waiting on the edge
Uncut my soul

Snip by snip
I'm oozing it
Bit by bit
I'm taking it
Step by step
Boy here and now

We're caught in a moment
And I won't let it go
I am falling deeper, losing my control
Involved in a feeling
Like the blink of an eye
And the silence it belongs to you and I

Secretly I let it slip
Emotional I fall through it
All I know I'm losing my control
I'm down your way too far
And there's no turning back
And now I'm shedding all my fears
I know, I know

We're caught in a moment
And I won't let it go (let it go)
I am falling deeper, losing my control (my control)
Involved in a feeling (involved in a feeling)
Like the blink of an eye (eye)
And the silence it belongs to you and I (I)

Silly Things Four 23-Year-Old Gals Do In Mac
1. Trying to take stupid pics of each other

(Taken by me without them knowing)

(No face to see pple)

2. Trying to take pics of little boy-boy
- Without his brother knowing

- Without shaky hands

3. Finally. The best shot.

(Isn't he cute? Taken by Min)

Btw, congrats to our dear Tukie for going into the Roxy Gal Finals! You go gal!

Old Boy

Old Boy is unlike any other film I've seen before. Totally original. Dark and disturbing though. Brilliant cinematography. Great acting. Can't say it's one of my favourite movies (cos it's too disturbing) but I think it deserves the Grand Jury prize at Cannes. And I'm glad I din miss the show. Heard Hollywood wans to do a remake of it. I think they will spoil the film.

Summer Scent

Finally finished the series! Compared to Autumn Tale and Winter Sonata (which is my fav), this is the most draggy series. This is especially so towards the later part. In fact, I feel that they should compact this to 10 episodes instead of 20. To some extent, Summer Scent is quite similar to Winter Sonata (female lead has a fiance, both leads work together in a resort project etc). However, I feel that Summer Scent has the best soundtrack out of the three series and the prettiest female lead (Son Ye-jin). She is soooo sweet. Can't say the same thing about the male lead though: what's up with the terrible hair and sleeveless colouful shirts?! But I love the ending. Perfect. Very artistic and romantic.

Random Thoughts (not in thinking order)

  • Visual basic everyday.
  • Wonder why I feel sleepy everyday at work despite sleeping at 11pm.
  • Weekends pass at a lightning speed.
  • I miss Amazing Race.
  • Why is American Next Top Model screening on Mon nite? And the upcoming Bi Xue Jian too. So late some more. Darn.
  • Hooked to the Channel U 9pm Meng Lijun show (yes, my impersonation). If I were her, I would go for the Majesty. More suave, more powerful and smarter. But then again, it only happens in shows. Dreaming again.
  • Old boy is actually showing in Singapore! Saw the trailer ages back. Never tot that it would be screened here. Plot looks intriguing. Got 8.6 rating in IMDB! Mus catch it before it's gone.
  • Wan watch Wimbledon too. I like both Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany. Think it's another standard no-brainer-but-feels-good romantic comedy though. But I like hee. Reminds me I miss my Raising Helen (and cute Kate Hudson)! Mus go find and download.
  • Stupid toto keep making mi lose money. Better open odd next week.
  • Think I hit the "Very Fat" scale.
  • Wan go swimming, but then think I'm too fat to be seen swimming.
  • Think I've lost my ability to PR. In fact, I think I dun even talk much nowadays.
  • Still got flu. Sian x 100.
  • Bit-torrent very slow.
  • 2 unexpected missed calls.

Sniff
Argh.. Down with flu. Sian. Mus be cos I've been skipping my daily dose of Vitamin C. There goes my weekend.
Anime
Naruto chap 233 not out yet. And the recent anime episodes sux.
Only found out today that Inuyasha finally ended. Yeah! But I'm already 10 episodes behind.
Initial D 4th Stage is out. Next on my download list after Naruto and Inuyasha. Thinking of downloading Hikaru No Go anime too. But hope the ending is different from the manga one.

Embrace - Gravity
Honey,
It's been a long time coming,
And I can't stop now
Such a long time running,
And I can't stop now

Do you hear my heart beating
Can you hear that sound
'Cause I can't help thinking
And I don't look down

And then I looked up at the sun
And I could see
Oh, the way that gravity turns for you and me
And then I looked up at the sky
And saw the sun
And the way that gravity pulls on everyone
On everyone

Baby,
It's been a long time waiting,
Such a long, long time
And I can't stop smiling,
no I can't stop now

But do you hear my heart beating
can you hear that sound
'Cause I can't help crying
And I won't look down

And then I looked up at the sun
And I could see
Oh, the way that gravity turns on you and me
And then I looked up at the sun
And saw the sky
And the way that gravity pulls on you and I
On you and I

Can you hear my heart beating
Are you hearing that sound
'Cause I can't help crying
And I won't look down

13 Going on 30
It's not really a comedy like what I expect it to be. But cool to see Jennifer Garner in a not-so-serious role. Dun like the abrupt ending though, which aims to tie up everything at 1 shot.
Comex
Have you ever seen human jam at escalators? Go comex and you can experience it. B4 the bridge linking citylink and suntec collapses due to super stress.
Wan to catch up with old frens? Go comex and u'll definitely see familiar faces. Those u haven't seen for ages.
One thing I dun understand. What the hell are insurance companies and banks setting up booths at Comex?
Clarke Quay
As the whole world was at suntec yesterday, Clarke Quay was a deserted town. Or maybe it's been like that for quite a while cos I haven't been there for years.
Dinner
Thank you shacko for organizing the dinner. I know it's hard to fix time and coordinate with everyone. Great chat and catching up with you yday. Rem to lend mi your da vinci code!
Kudos to:
- tukie for coming even though she has to catch a morning flight the following day.
- pia for coming even though he has to lug a super heavy bag (with his cecilia inside?) after training and not having slept the days before. My great brudder!
- sher for always being so on in all outings despite busy in school and work.
- manman for being a rare guest!

Finally the all-important handover.. Wonder what lies ahead now for Singapore. As quoted from the Dim Sum Dollies, the handover "marks the change of a new dynasty (oops), or rather, democracy.."
Btw, Dim Sum Dollies was really hilarious. A pity I din catch the 1st one.

Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved
Beauty queen of only eighteen
She had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her
She always belonged to someone else

I drove for miles and miles
And wound up at your door
I've had you so many times but somehow I want more

I don't mind spending everyday
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
She will be loved

Tap on my window knock on my door
I want to make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get insecure
It doesn't matter anymore

It's not always rainbows and butterflies
It's compromise that moves us along
My heart is full and my door's always open
You can come anytime you want

I don't mind spending everyday
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
She will be loved

I know where you hide
Alone in your car
Know all of the things that make you who you are
I know that goodbye means nothing at all
Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she falls

Copa America Final - Argentina vs. Brazil
Argentina was clearly the domineering side in the first half with the waves after waves of attack but luckily for Brazil they had a brilliant goalkeeper. In 20 min, Luis Gonzalez was fouled in the penalty box and Christian Gonzalez (the Argentinean team is full of Gonzalez) took the penalty giving Argentina the lead. Brazil scored the equalizer in the last minute of the 1st half from a corner. The second half started with the Brazilians playing more aggressively but both sides did not convert their chances. It would seem like the match would go into a penalty shoot-out (the last thing I hoped to happen cos Brazil had a great keeper and Argentina's keeper sux). In the 87th minute,  Cesar Delgado scored a powerful shot. Just when I thought Argentina would win the Copa and began to celebrate, Adriano (the top scorer) equalized in the last 5 seconds. That was it. Penalty shoot-out. Argentina actually missed the 1st two shots (1st one was saved by the keeper, the 2nd one was a Beckham miss). Brazil won the Copa America final.

Dilemma
I really really have no idea whether to wait for the startup company's offer or to accept the internship offer. Even now with only like half a day left to decide, I'm still not sure what I want. For the past few days I had been weighing the pros and cons of each and making up my mind only to waver after that. I have only myself to blame for this fix.
Zombie
Had only 2 hours of sleep. Awakened by my sis who was furious at me for returning home late. Couldn't get back to sleep now with so many stuff on my mind. Sigh.
Orchard
Yday was an everyone-was-at-orchard day. Met up with bq and babe. Saw jm with his hall pple. Saw vincent just when mi and babe were toking abt him (cao cao!). Saw gb and zm. Met the long-time-no-see da niu for dinner while babe went for hers and bq went for his with qy n co. Met up with min n sz after that at zouk. Saw ronald there.
Mambo
Finally went mambo yday after a gap for about 3 years. Had no intention of clubbing at all til suddenly everyone just happened to jio. Had fun with min, da niu, sz and ronald aka the cheongster aka my dancing partner (gasp! da niu actually jokingly said b4 hand that we might bum into him and we did!). The crowd was quite young though and we felt we were the oldest pple ard there. But who cares? We're young at heart. :p

Food!
Went to makan at this "da4 pai2 dang4" food fest at somerset yday. Super crowded and the place reminded me of the food street i saw in Penang but smaller. Shared table with an uncle in his 70s and his auntie fren. This uncle was really cute and friendly and he kept chatting with us non-stop. Practically could tok about anything under the sun and his ability to create and link chat topics really amazed mi. Quite entertained by him hee. Had this oyster omelette (ate 2 small oysters even though i'm not supposed to have seafood :p) - not bad but a bit ex ($5 for a small plate) and the queue was super damned long. Had hokkien mee oso ($4 for a big plate) and it was quite nice but the queue was also long for this stall.
Still on the food topic, i tried this nasi lemak at Adam Rd the other day at this stall with super long queue. But it was quite overhyped -
1) the chilli was not spicy enuff;
2) the otah was not even hot;
3) the chicken wings was so-so only, they only coat them with flour to make it crispier, but tt's all;
4) the ikan billis cmi (cannot make it);
5) it's more expensive at $3 (egg, ikan, chicken) and $4 (plus otah).
Think i still prefer changi village's nasi lemak. But the prawn mee there was quite good according to my sis (i had a few sips of the soup, it was great!) Will definitely wan to try the prawn mee once i can eat seafood.

Convocation
Erm or rather Commencement like what the NUS call it. I was quite scared that things might go wrong today... cos I had been having very bad days - refer to previous post below (think about 4 consecutive days in fact). Started the day off by watching the 2nd half of Argentina vs Ecuador match (6-1! Thrash!). Caught the 6 goals (5 by Argentina and 1 by Ecuador), simply fantastic (commentator sux though). Regretted not betting on my fav soccer team... Anyway, reached school at ard 5 but took nearly an hour to robe (adjusting and fastening the hood). Think gb and zh too lan diao at mi, said that I couldn't even use safety pins like a ger.. ouch! Then started going around and taking photos... ran out of poses and expressions and props (til the roses and the gigantic sunflower arrived - thank u gers!). Quite happy that a number of people came - sj gals (min, shacko, tukie n babe), ttfr (boon, zh, sz, bq, qy, jm, bean) and my offical photographer gb. Thank you people for coming! Now could understand how min felt last year with so many pple ard hee. Pity zm couldn't make it cos he was down with dengue. And jt was stuck outfield but his video cam was here though. Quite excited also to see some peers whom I hadn't seen for a long time too and taking photos with them. Overall it's a tiring day. Will post up the link for the photos once I have them consolidated.

Bad days
Yesterday
- not enuff sleep, woke up late, late in my appointment;
- quarrelled with my sis over stupid matters;
- forgot to bring my EZ-link card and i had no coins too;
- met up with the YPPs and the first thing they saw mi was to ask about my scars...sigh;
- IE got invalid page fault, cannot open new IE windows, cannot ctrl-F, took mi quite a while to solve it..
Today
- laptop caused short-circuit and this short-circuit made mi miss the Greek goal live on TV (felt like there's some Amelie out there playing a prank on mi);
- Portugal lost and I lost my bet;
- job put on hold further cos CFO on leave til end of month... sian.. dunno shd i wait or shd i job-search again;
- kena mosquito bites;
- toto lost $ too;
- laptop got new problem, startup super long. haven't find the cause and the solution for it;

saw this malay guy who was screaming in tampines mall. apparently he was quarrelling with his gf and he was venting his frustrations. feel like screaming myself too. but dun have the guts to do so in public. mabbe should go to the beach.
Euro Cup 2004 Final - Portugal vs. Greece
Greece won. I can eat back my words now. Portugal was definitely the better team but somehow they jus couldn't get the ball into the back of the net. Kinda frustrating for the players themselves and for us the onlookers. Sigh. Pauletta din perform when I tot it was time for him to prove himself. A bad move to include him from the start. Ronaldo was shown crying real bad after the final whistle, guessed he was upset for giving away the corner that resulted in Greek's goal as well as the several missed attempts on goal. Poor thing. And a stupid fan who ran in and disturbed the match for 5 min. Bet he was Greece's supporter who wanted to waste as much time as possible. And the referee din add back much injury time, kinda unfair. Felt that he was a bit pro-Greece (well, he was Otto's family dentist).
Greece, on the other hand, was really a surprise all the way. From the moment it defeated Portugal in the opening match, qualified for the quarter-finals, beat France the previous Cup holder, overcame Czech the hot favourite and winning Portugal the 2nd time to claim the Cup. Really have to give Otto and his players credit to overcome all odds and kick all the way through.
But still, rather disappointed that Portugal din win especially after the fine display of team spirit and skills they had shown in the match against Holland. Well Euro's over. Looking forward to see Argentina and Brazil in Copa America.

Went Insomnia at Chijmes earlier and tot the live band there was great and entertaining. But kinda irritated by 2 SPGs who were dancing salsa next to me and kept banging into mi and one of them actually stepped on my toes with her super high n sharp stilettos. The best part was she continued on like nobody's business. Grr. Should have fling my hair at her face for revenge.

Euro Semi Final 2 - Greece vs. Czech Republic
Greece got into the finals. Full-stop. The surprise package has made another surprise again. The Czechs, whom I thought highly possible to win the Euro Cup this year, was knocked out. The much awaited Portugal vs. Czech showdown isn't gonna happen. Did I mention I hate watching defensive play? Watching England play was bad enuff, now Greece is getting on my nerves too. I triple confirmed this by dozing off on at least 2 occasions just now. Woke up only to see the replay of the decisive Greek goal that drove the Czechs out. I'm still irritated by the fact Koller could actually miss an open goal that any Tom, Dick and Harry could hit in. He ought to be substituted but the Czech coach could not do what Scolari could. And the poor Nedved had to be injured during this important match. Luck was really not on their side (and mine too).
Prior to this match, I had decided not to bet on the final match if it were Portugal vs. Czech and sit back and enjoy the two attacking teams play attacking football. But alas, there might be the torture of going through another boring match (with Greece in the final). I'm gonna put my bet on Portugal for the final. (The irony was, I took Greece for the opening match because I tot Portugal was too stuck up at that time). Attacking football over defensive this time and I believe Portugal wun lose to Greece twice in the same tournament.
Euro 2004 Semi Final 1 - Portugal vs. Holland
As what I hope, Portugal moves on to the Final by winning Holland 2-1. At least I can watch Ronaldo for another match :P. He scored the 1st goal for Portugal in the 26th min through a corner taken by Deco (I had a hunch at that time that Portugal would score! I think I'm getting psychic :P). Nice header from Ronaldo and I couldn't believe the Dutch actually left him unmarked. The ball went into the net between the Dutch goalie and Edgar Davids (who, according to the New Paper, was posing like a teapot against the post). Poor Ronaldo was booked later by the weird swedish referee for taking his shirt off to celebrate. Oh come on, couldn't the referee take it easy a bit? He made all the terrible decisions during the match. He booked Robben for simulation when the poor Dutch just sort of lost his balance and fell. And yet he closed an eye when the real illegal tackles were executed. Though I'm a Portugal supporter, but in a word of fairness, I feel that Deco should be booked for diving so many times and Ricardo too for wasting so much time faking pain.
The 2nd goal was scored by Maniche which I believed was one of the most beautiful goals in the tournament. It was unstoppable and impossible to save. Then an own goal by Jorge Andrade 5 min later. Actually he should not worry about the cross and tried to clear it away. Becos IMHO, even if van Nisterooy were to reach the ball, he would be in a bad angle to shoot and with his off-form situation, the probability of him scoring was quite low.
Figo was awarded the Man of the Match and I think he deserved it. Whenever he touched the ball, he created chances for Portugal. He broke thru Holland's defence a lot of times in the left and right flanks (Figo and Ronaldo switched flanks to and fro throughout the game!). The first goal was an indirect result of him earning the corner. I suspect it was Scolari's psychological warfare in making Figo heated up for the semi-final match (by substituting him in the quarter-final) and playing his very best.
Can't wait for the final showdown! Hope it will be against Czech..

Jet - Look What You've Done
Take my photo off the wall
If it just won't sing for you
'Cause all that's left has gone away
And there's nothing there for you to prove

Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
Oh well, it seems likes such fun
Until you lose what you had won

Give me back my point of view
'Cause I just can't think for you
I can hardly hear you say
What should I do, well you choose

Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
Oh well, it seems likes such fun
Until you lose what you had won

Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
A fool of everyone
A fool of everyone

Take my photo off the wall
If it just won't sing for you
'Cause all that's left has gone away
And there's nothing there for you to do

I luuurrrvveee this ballad by Jet - yes the same Jet that gives us "Are You Gonna Be My Gal" (which totally sux IMHO). This song is so beatles-inspired and it really makes my heart melt jus by listening to it over and over again.

Keane
The next up-and-coming sensational Brit pop band after Coldplay. My latest craze. Download their music here. All of them worth listening!
Euro 2004 Quarter Final 2 - France vs Greece
If the Portugal/England match were to be considered as the most exciting match in Euro, this France/Greece match would then be the most boring one. I had lost count of how many times I had nearly doze off. To be fair, I like both teams from the start. Hence I wasn't rooting for any particular team to win but was hoping for action and goals. This match had none of that. Did I mention that I love to watch attacking football? I tot France would give mi that but alas, they were dictated by the Greeks instead. There was no fast pace action, no dribblings to the penalty box area, jus aimless passes of the ball from the French which often ended up with the Greeks. I was suspecting the authencity of the French team. Did they find a dummy Zizou and Henry? Wat happened to the French players who played the magnificent comeback game against England? This had only proven a point - Les Bleus only do well against the supposedly strong teams and they are too arrogant to treat the underdogs seriously.
The Greeks, on the other hand, had a super strong defence. Unlike England - a so-called defensive team who like to have 11 players guarding their net, Greece defenders could really tackle opponents in the most legal and effective way, head dangerous balls far away and pressurize opponents to give up. Their teamwork was simply fantastic. The passes and crosses were all so accurate and complete that I suspect the players all had telepathy with one another. And unlike England, they could hold on to their lead. They did not defend without attack. They could have won 2-0 had Barthez be a split second slower in saving the ball in the 15th min. In fact, half the ball was over the line already.
In all, this was an utterly monotonous match with a surprise result. Though it wasn't that surprising cos within 5 min into the game, it could be clearly seen that the French could not dictate the game and play up to their standard. Can the Greeks cause an upset again in the semifinal? Very unlikely. Czech is too strong to be stopped. But the Greeks already prove themselves to be no pushover and luck-rider.

Euro 2004 Quarter Final 1 - Portugal vs England
Definitely the most exciting match I've ever watched. The match was fast-paced with Portugal pressurising England most of time with their attacking waves (but often with harmless finishes) and the occasional but dangerous England counter-attacks. As early as the 3rd min, my heart sank when Owen scored a goal from a Portuguese defence deadly mistake. Tried reassuring myself that there was still much time for the Portugal to score an equalizer. One thing I like about Portugal is they, like Brazil, plays attacking football (Conversely the reason why I dun like England). And attacking football is always entertaining to watch. Especially with the likes of Ronaldo, Gomes, Figo, Deco and later Simao, Postiga and Costa. Ronaldo is soooo cute and cheeky with his dives and all his so marvellous skills to fake Cole. Erm did I mention he was everywhere on the field? Right flank, left flank, attacking at England's side of the field, defending on Portugal's side... I'll hate him if I'm an England supporter but I'm not. Though I still think he really did kelong in the Greece match.
Back to the topic, when Portugal din score the much-needed equalizer for as long as the 80th min I nearly gave up hope. But as always, the ball is round and God is fair. The better team should not be out. Hence after Figo was substituted by Postiga and the latter scored the long-awaited equalizer in the 83th min, I nearly screamed and risked waking the whole family out. Somehow I had the hunch that a goal was coming cos my face was nearly stuck to my TV for that particular minute. The same hunch came back to mi in the 89th min when Beckham took the all-dangerous freekick. I had no time to heave a sigh of relief when the ball hit the bar and then Campbell kicked the ball inside the net.
At the same time, I saw the foul on Ricardo (there was really a foul! go see the replay! see the pic above! the referee was fair!) and heard the whistle. It was the most nerve-wrecking 10 seconds (the 1st scary moment of the match - there were 3). When I tot England was going to win and the goal ended up being disallowed, it was a rollercoaster ride for mi. Except mine was low to high while most others were high to low.
Silver goal in play next. When Rui Costa (dinno he was Batistuta old partner, no wonder I found him so 'Bati' from the start) scored the beautiful 25 metre goal straight into the net I thought this was it. Then I started praying that Portugal would hang on to this lead for the remaining 10 min but they jus couldn't do it. Lampard (I hate this guy, he scored in France match too, always ruined my hopes) scored the equalizer 5 min later (2nd scary moment). I almost wished to teleport myself to Portugal now and kill all the Portugal defenders and Ricardo for not defending well. And at the same time kill the Euro 2004 officials for still using the old Silver Goal rule instead of the Golden. I seriously din wan the match to go into penalty shoot-outs cos I tot James was a better goalie than Ricardo and the commentators sort of tot Portugal would not handle penalties as well. Puss kept assuring me otherwise and Beckham would miss penalty. He was damned right. When I saw Beckham stepping forward to take the 1st penalty somehow I knew he was gonna miss it. And he did. Did it in France and again now. High up. And being the unsporty man, he blamed it on the grass. Why din he blame the miss on his nerves? As far as I noe, the rest of the penalty takers had no problem with the grass. When I tot Rui Costa the man who gave the beautiful long shot goal would have no problem with a nearer penalty, he proved mi wrong. My heart started to pump like it's gonna run out of my body cos any saves or misses from one side would cost that side to be out (3rd scary moment and the longest too). After the 5 shots, the sudden death penalty started to be in play. Oh wat a daring penalty by Postiga! Cheekily flipped the ball in the centre and let it bounced slowly in while sending James the wrong way. And the highlight was of cos the bare-handed save by Ricardo when he guessed Vassell's shot correctly. I was all ready to eat my words about shooting him earlier when he surprised mi next by taking the penalty shot himself! I was puzzled for 1 second when I couldn't spot any red shirts taking penalty. And wat a penalty that was. James guessed the right way but still couldn't save the beautiful goal that went high up in the corner of the net executed by the all-confident Ricardo.
Ricardo's the man. Scolari too. I am now sure that Scolari is England's jinx. (And all Ronaldos too). I was so overwhelmed with the excitement of the match that despite being extremely tired I jus couldn't sleep. This was certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Euro Cup - France vs. England
Simply exciting. The first 15 minutes the ball din even cross into France's penalty area. France was simply attacking England waves after waves but they just din have the magic finish. It was nightmare in the 38th min when Beckham took a free kick and Lampard headed it in. For mi at least. All my England supporter frens were all screaming in ecstasy and hi5-ing each other. The nightmare nearly took a worse turn when Rooney was brought down and was awarded a penalty. But luckily for Les Bleus, Beckham missed the penalty! Yippee! But why did he step up and take it in the first place? Din he remember Barthez was his old Man U 'colleague'? It was a costly mistake. Cos at the 90th minute when I tot all hope was lost and I gonna lose my 10 bucks to sz, miracle happened. A free kick was awarded to France and Zidane the free kick specialist calmly put the ball at the back of the net. Actually I was already contented with the draw result to lose only 5 bucks and couldn't stop celebrating when the next moment France was awarded a penalty! What a turn of events! Why did Gerrard back-pass to James was still a mystery unsolved. Perhaps Henry was at his blindspot. When Zidane proceeded to do wat Beckham could not, that was it. France won England with 2 goals after the 90th min! It was a twist even better than the Sixth Sense.

Fight Club

Finally get to watch this movie (pirate again :P). Thanks to a friend who revealed to me the ending long time ago, he had the movie spoiled for me. Not totally though, cos nevertheless Fight Club is still a thought-provoking movie and it's definitely NOT what the title suggests (i.e., it's NOT about fighting). This is not Edward Norton at his best (his best I feel is his first movie Primal Fear), but still he is effortlessly convincing in his role. Though IMHO, I tot if the movie shows more of him being Tyler, it would be brilliant. Guess I prefer watching Edward Norton as a bad guy. Overall i think the movie is worth a watch. Unique plot. I quite like some particular memorable and tongue-in-cheek quotes which are worth pondering:
1) "If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?"
2) "Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need."
3) "You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your f**king khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."
4) "When you have insomnia, you're never really asleep... and you're never really awake."
5) "It's only after you've lost everything that you're free to do anything."
6) "The things you own end up owning you."
7) "I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every Panda that wouldn't screw to save its species."
8) "With a gun barrel between your teeth, you speak only in vowels."

dun really feel like blogging about my accident, how it happened and how i am now. i'm jus hoping that at the end of it all, there wouldn't be any scars on my face (though unlikely) and meanwhile i guess i have to deal with more pain to come for the dental implants and the removal of stitches. ok, now it sounds bad. actually i'm fine. i can walk, talk (though muffled), eat (slowly) and continue doing everything and anything indoors and not dealing with water. but despite of it all, i like taiwan and i enjoy my trip (the shopping and the hot spring part) and i would like to go back there again in the near future.

Friday, May 14, 2004

Will be in Taiwan in 15 hours time! So excited! Xian ge, Kang kang & No-No, here we come!!
swam 23 laps today.. but ate a lot after that.. ba chor mee, durian puffs (super BLAND) and chicken lasagne..

TROY

TROY is quite good though a bit too long (about 2.5 hrs)... a bit bored in the middle.. There are some repetitive scenes/actions that i think are redundant. Though Brad Pitt is the main lead Achilles, but I tot Eric Bana is outstanding as the upright and tragic Hector. Forget the Hulk, he's more manly and pitiful in Troy. Sean Bean (Boromir in LOTR) steals scenes as the smart Odysseus. Orlando Bloom doesn't get much screen time as Paris. And Hector's son, damn cute. Overall a bit different from Homer's Iliad especially the ending part but the main plot is still the same. Makes mi interested in Greek Mythology again.

Tuesday, May 11, 2004

went swimming today.. despite having muscle aches from the sat night cycling (sidenote: quite glad i survived the night cycling with my "P-plate" skills).. in fact the 20 laps did sooth the achings..
rushed home to watch survivor finale but missed the part where rupert got booted off. amber won the million as expected. but the proposal was unexpected. my sis and i tot that it's one of rob's schemes to secure the ger AND the million. haha.. we're still skeptical of rob.
received good news from my cousin yday regarding his business and his family. glad things are finally turning out well for him.
finally got to watch butterfly effect yday (erm, i'm a pirate again). tot it was quite a good show (given the fact tt it can keep mi glued to it despite my sleepiness) though there's some loophole in the stigmata part. but nevertheless it makes u think and wonder about the decisions u make in life and how they will affect the rest of ur life and the pple ard u.

Friday, May 07, 2004

Everything jus kinda screwed up before lunch today. Woke up late, miscommunication with my sis, end up shouting and quarrelling with each other and the Mother's Day lunch was nearly cancelled. Luckily things turned out to be fine after lunch.. though teppenyaki wasn't that fantastic. My sis and I back to talking terms, mi bought a top at a super bargain price and I received a phone call for an interview tm.. Anyway what I learn today is that when things screw up or dun turn out the way u wan, there are two ways to handle it: 1) brood over it and sulk all the day long and end up getting on everyone's nerves or 2) get over it and get on with your life and make everybody happy.

Everything's gonna be all right.... in a while

Thursday, April 29, 2004

I need to work out.
After eating so much for the past few days in Malaysia, put on a few pounds already. Ipoh hor fun, Assam laksa, Penang laksa (not nice one.. sour and fishy), yam paste (very tasty), chicken biscuits, preserved nutmegs, wan ton mee with super big wan tons... And with the Taiwan trip coming up, I better start doing some exercises and TRY to eat less.

Back from KL. Tired.

Sunday, April 18, 2004

Finally finished my last exam! So happy... Overall quite a crappy day today. Slept 3 hrs before hand and woke up at 6 plus to prepare myself for this last exam.. Sort of paranoid cos scared of being late and missing it and then have to retain for another sem (cold sweat). Paper wasn't as difficult as previous sems but I'm not that hopeful for the essay question though.
Met up with crappy gb and zm for lunch. End up laffing n crapping over the most trivial stuff and doing some silly actions again.. Then went to "ka jiao" them at central library (i think it's only my 2nd or 3rd time stepping there throughout my 4 years in NUS :P). Quite a great way to signify my last day of school by being the ONLY person going to central library and NOT studying.. heh.
Then went swimming n relaxing at jacuzzi with my sis at temasek club, but due to my laziness n sleepiness i only swam 2 laps :P. Most of the time we were jus soaking water and talking our sista stuff and gossips.. We went shopping after that and i bought one bikini on sale (actually the rest of the designs were not that nice, but i managed to dig out one i like, yeah).
Having cooped up at home for so many days, quite glad that I can finally unwind le.. Next up: Going KL-Penang on Mon and coming Taiwan trip in mid-May! Can't wait hee...

Woo-hoo!! HYP presentation is over!!! It's definitely not as bad as I thought, mainly because I've got 2 very nice professors as my evaluators. The first one (he wore pink! how cool) actually read thru my hyp report and noe what my report is talking abt!!! I thought my report was kinda hopeless.. and no one would quite understand it. I'm so gan dongz man.. bet my own supervisor din even read thru my report and even noe exactly about my stuff. And he actually pointed out some minor errors in my report like numbering my subsection wrongly etc and told mi there's no much grammatical errors in it. He even offered to email mi those minor mistakes so that I could make the necessary changes b4 submitting the final digital copy. He was so smiley and friendly and encouraging throughout the presentation. Just hope he'll be just as lenient when he gives the grade. As for the other prof, he came only at the last half an hour of the time slot and was so rushed for time that he din ask much questions. In fact the presentation with him was only 10 min. Somehow I got the feeling that he dun understand my presentation at all. He's an ang-moh so he might not understand my english just like I dun understand his. Not too optimistic about the grade he giving mi, but heard from frens he's quite lenient. So hopefully can get good grade bah.. a B will suffice hee.. I'm easily contented.

Hidalgo

If we ignore the controversial issue about how true the story is, this is rather an entertaining movie (or perhaps I'm biased). Viggo Mortensen plays Frank Hopkins, a legendary long-distance horse rider who participates in a 3000-mile horse race Ocean of Fire. 400-mile is considered a marathon race already, so 3000-mile is like the impossible. Hidalgo is the name of his beloved Spanish Mustang and they really got this very cute n expressive horse (his eyes can talk!) to play the title role. So cute that Viggo purchased this horse after the film completed. While there is no historical evidence to support Frank Hopkins' claim that he really participated this race and the existence of such race, just treat this movie as fictional and watch it for the King or for the cute Mustang.

Singapore vs. Japan
Just back from watching this exciting football match. The last football match I watched (ttfr not included) was Singapore vs. Brunei 10 years back when there was a Tiger Cup (or Malaysia Cup?). My sis somehow got 2 grandstand tix of this World Cup Preliminary at the last minute. We wanted to sell the tix away cos we tot it would be a one-sided match. According to my sis, grandstand tix was going for as much as $400 (!!!) each in the "black market". But in the end we din manage to sell cos too last minute. When we reached Jalan Besar Stadium, we had a culture shock. For a split second I tot I was in Japan (I wish!). At least 3/4 of the spectators were Japanese.. and all kawaii neh. It seemed like Japan was the host. Anyway, Singapore put up a tough fight against Japan and tried their best not to be intimidated by them. The goalkeeper Hassan Sunny should be commended for saving so many goals especially in the first half where the Japan team dominated the game and put 1 ball in the net. Singapore only possessed the ball 5% of the time in the 1st half.

Oh yah to digress a bit, the Japan team was really a bunch of eye-candies especially the suave and stylo Nakata (he's the only one in the team i could recognize actually). Everytime he was brought down by the Singaporean defender (3 times I think), all the gers in the stadium (Japanese and Singaporean alike) would stare angrily at the defender with fists clenched. And whenever Nakata touched the ball, all the gers would swoon and go ga-ga. The power of Nakata. Oh well..

In the second half, Singapore managed to attack a few times, one of which was the unexpected goal that caused 1/4 of the spectators to scream like mad and all the Japanese to drop their jaws. That was when Japan team started to get "kan cheong" and thereby quicken their pace in attacking. Singapore, after the morale-boosting goal, started to play more confidently. This 25 minutes was the best part of the game where the actions were spread more evenly between both halves of the field. Finally Japan kicked in one more goal 10 minutes b4 full-time and all the Japanese fans heaved a sigh of relief. But that's not the end. At the 86th minute (i think), Singapore made a dangerous attack towards Japan but the shot at goal went a bit too high. So in the end the score was a close 2-1 and not 9-0 like most pple (including me) predicted.

I mus really say Singapore put up a tough fight and the goalie really saved a lot of balls (no pun intended). And I really sympathise with those gamblers and punters out there who bet Japan to win by at least 2 goals. I perfectly understand how u all feel. The ball is round. Anything could happen. Toto would be a better option.

Kanye West - Through the Wire
The screamings are actually the scramblings of Chaka Khan - Through the Fire (which is actually a romantic oldie!). The lyrics are as follows:

Through the fire
To the limit, to the wall
For a chance to be with you
I'd gladly risk it all
Through the fire
Through whatever, come what may
For a chance at loving you
I'd take it all the way
Right down to the wire
Even through the fire

I'm addicted to both Through the Fire and Through the Wire.

Dilemma
Just finished printing my report without proofreading it.. I'm jus too sian to look at the report and jus want to end my misery of the past few weeks. Printed 100 pages!!! Anyway.. back to topic.. I'm in a dilemma right now whether to go to sleep or to go straight to school and hand up my reports. Judging from my incoherent ramblings, I think I need some sleep.. Taking a short break after the past sleepless nites pia-ing for my thesis draft. Now waiting for my sup to look thru and give comments. Hope no much changes is needed cos I only have till next Tuesday to edit and print. Wed is the DEADline. Still gotta submit the stoopid gigantic A1 poster. Have to waste $$ to print it somemore. Dunno why can't we simply use powerpoint slides for the presentation. Sigh. Back to doing my poster.

Starsky & Hutch

I haven't been posting my movie reviews these days.. a bit lazy to do so.. Mystic River not bad, Big Fish so-so, Monster a bit disturbing.. But I must warn people about this movie Starsky & Hutch. Dun be fooled by its colourful poster. I din even chuckle, wat's more laugh, watching this so-called comedy. It's utterly a waste of time watching it (and downloading it). If you wan see Ben & Owen acting funny, watch Oscars instead.

Chilli, this is what the foods you eat say about you:
You are a sensitive person and often find yourself daydreaming about your past and future. You are quite conservative and the values that your parents and teachers instilled in you still play an important part in your decision making.

You are always wilful and most of the time, you are a stubborn person. (very true!!!!)
But you love to work and are quite honest, which makes you good to get along with as a friend or lover.

You are tough, hard-working and responsible. When you are assigned to do something, you will do your best no matter how difficult the job at hand might be.
(eh dun think so)

You are self-centered and disagree other people's feelings and ideas. You normally go against social rules and regulations.
(true to a certain extent)

Breathe
Another "Breathe" song. Same title, but totally different from Roxette's Breathe. This Blu Cantrell one is totally upbeat. I think I need to take a breather too.

Thursday, February 26, 2004

Things are not going well lately. Even fixing a meeting with my supervisor seems so hard. And one of the project group mates is still super pissed at the rest of us. And this is pissing mi off too. And i'm getting anti-social missing out all the outings with friends. And the confidence level in myself has struck an all-time low.

If I'm good in doing IS projects and writing IS project reports, I wouldn't be opting to do a CS project for my HYP. Everyone tot I'm crazy to do that. But the fact is, I'm crazy to major in IS in the first place. And yes, I'm only in Honours because of my results in year 1 and 2. I dun deserve to be in Honours for the terrible results I've got for the IS modules in year 3 and 4. I really hate IS. Damn. To hell with the stoopid person who told mi IS was good. Damn mi for listening to that stoopid person. Damn CS4250. I hate working with people. Yah, I belong to individualistic culture.

Find out what anime series you belong in.
Down with Flu (again!)
It's 9.45am in the morning. I'm seldom up before noon (except for school), let alone this time. In fact, I was up at 7am for toilet break but couldn't sleep ever since. Must be this stoopid ineffective flu tablet I took. Din realise it contained caffeine. Got the terrible flu since yesterday, kept having bouts of sneezing and a non-stop runny nose. I've already used up a box of tissue and now opening another one. The TTFR gang gg to sentosa later, think I most probably can't go in this state. Sigh. And this I'm-really-very-tired-but-I-can't-sleep feeling is getting on my nerves. Damn.

YPP (Don't ask me what does it stand for)
Just met up with my YPP gang recently TWICE within 2 weeks. We must have missed one another really much cos we din meet up for 5 years after we graduate from Dunman. But even so, the 8 of us din change a bit except maybe for our appearances. We're still as noisy, crazy, BHB, dirty-minded and crude as ever. We were from the same secondary 1 and 2 class. Our gang was first formed on the first 2 weeks of Sec 1 when we were at the stone tables in Old Dunman waiting for our Home Econs lesson. There, our Miss Sharon started to pop a question: "Hey gals, you noe what is rubber?" Well, that's it. I'm rather proud to say that I was the first to react to her question. And all thanks to this "rubber" as a ice breaker, the gang was formed. We were the most outrageous gers in our class then. I could never forget the times we had together teasing one another about our crushes, singing do-rae-mi song together, starting chain letters, striding across the basketball courts abreast in a line of 8 and disallowing anyone to walk in between us. Once we even wrote love letters to our seniors on V-Day but as a prank (eg. with lines like "I love your height" to a very short senior). Those were the days. Without this gang, I think my secondary days would not be so colourful and fun.

Movies Update: Last Samurai

Ken Watanabe and Hiroyuki Sanada. The former has actually appeared in the jap movie Space Travellers as the mysterious bomb-carrier. No wonder he looks so familiar. The two are my favourite characters in the movie. They are both very "sei" and eye-catching as samurais. Tom Cruise pales in comparison. In fact, he looks quite haggard in the movie. This movie is very epic-like, and I personally like the settings in Meiji restoration era (due to the influence of Rurouni Kenshin aka Samurai X). I went to watch this show with not much expectations (trailer not that anticing enough), and it turns out to be simply magnificent (reminds me a bit of ROTK). Definitely a must-watch.
Movies Update: Magic Kitchen (Mo Huan Chu Fang)

A thrashy show. Silly plot with a few laughable jokes. Jerry Yan (the supposed male lead) turns out to be a big cameo. Sammi is as usual. Maggie Q looks sexy. Andy steals all the limelight as expected. I wun watch this movie if not for the free tickets.
Movies Update: Paycheck

I always enjoy John Woo's movies, in fact his Face/Off is one of my personal faves. Paycheck is not that good, but it's fast-paced nevertheless and entertaining enough with its sci-fi plot (by the author of Minority Report). Not as bad as what the reviews say although i think it'll do better with other casts (a bit sian of Ben Affleck) and more action.

Went to watch this german movie expecting it to be some war show. Turned out to be quite different. A bit slow paced. Jus like most artistic movies. Not too bad, but not really my cup of coffee.
