MRT
Encountered 2 MRT breakdowns in less than 3 months. Either:
1) I'm extremely unlucky,
or
2) This is the norm.
A fren studying in London said I shouldn't complain. Singapore's transport system is much faster, more efficient and more reliable comparatively to most other countries (eg. UK). True, but I can't help complaining especially when:
1) My body nearly got squashed by the door when I was trying to board the train. And I thought there's such thing called sensors. And drivers. And cameras. No wonder accidents happen.
2) The service waiting time has increased to 8 min recently.
3) I can't get any seats nowadays. Even from Tampines.

Lord of the Rings - Return of the King

The last of the Tolkien trilogy. An awesome show. Just like the previous 2. I can't really say which one out of the 3 is my fav, cos they can't really be compared. Nevertheless, there's some parts in ROTK that I thought could be done better. Ok, I'm nitpicking here. Now I wish I din read the book b4 I watch the show so I would enjoy more. Grr.
**************************Spoilers********************************
1) The multiple fake endings. Although there's a need to tie up some loose knots, i dun really see the need of Sam's and Rosie's little romance and their wedding etc (but then again, mabbe it's there to show that Sam is not a gay). And the fact that I was itching to go to the loo din help too.
2) Not enough action between Sam and the orcs. I was looking forward to Sam wearing the ring and saving Frodo as the "Big Elf Warrior".
3) Faramir and Denethor. Faramir is one of my fav characters in the book. But somehow I can't really sympathise with Faramir in the movie as in the book. But Pippin's singing sequence (hey he can sing!) and Denethor's nonchalance (the eating part) is quite effective nevertheless.
4) Eowyn and the Witch-King. Hey it's supposed to be the highlight. But she jus defeated him in a few strokes??!! Not enough excitement.
5) Aragorn missing from the screen for too long!! There's one LONG period of time where Aragorn disappear (from when he entered the Path of the Dead til he reappeared with the ghosts during the battle at Minas Tirith).
6) House of healing! Tot they should show Aragorn's kingly powers. And it'll be more convincing when he's crowned after that. (Well any part that has Aragorn should not be omitted!!)
7) Faramir and Eowyn. Hope to see their romance in the EE version.
Enough with flaws. Parts that I'm impressed:
1) The lighting up of the beacons. Simply awesome.
2) Gandalf's ride to Minas Tirith all the way up to the 7 levels.
3) Rohan's riders running down the battle at the Minas Tirith and trampling the orcs.
4) Aragorn's speech at the Black Gate. And when he shouted "For Frodo" and led the assault. Very stylo. Very valiant. Very warrior. Very kingly.
5) Legola's battling with the oliphaunt. Cool. And Gimli's "That still only counts as one!". Lolz.
6) Sam's "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!" (something like that). Emotional.
7) At Mount Doom. I actually like the literal cliff-hanger though it's not in the book.
*********************End Spoilers*****************************
Definitely a must-watch. Would like to watch again (if I got $ to spare). I only really like The Two Towers the 3rd time I watched in the EE vcd (Helm's Deep is breathtaking!). So hope I'll like the ROTK more the more times I watch.

Lord of The Rings
Mood: Very LOTR
Music: The Two Towers - Requiem Overture (trailer music)

Bought the Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers extended version vcds and watched for the whole of yday nite. There is not much difference between the LOTR 1 extended version and the original one but for The Two Towers, the extended version is really more in depth especially with additional scenes of Faramir and Boromir, and those of Merry, Pippin and TreeBeard. When I first caught the Two Towers in cinema, I was not that impressed by it. But after watching it a 2nd time yday, I found it better (perhaps due to the additional scenes too). And the Two Towers trailer music kept hanging at the back of my mind. Searched the web jus now, it turns out to be a remix of the score for another movie Requiem for a Dream. Can't stop listening to it now.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

Before I caught the show, everyone (well, nearly) told mi this is damned good. So I went to watch with rather high expectations but it does not really meet my expectations. Master and Commander is good, no doubt. But a bit over-rated. There's not much actions except the last (and only) head-on confrontation with the french ship. Just when I thought there is more action coming up, it ends. A cliff-hanger ending (for a sequel?) is somehow inappropriate here. Despite all these, Russell Crowe and his presence is good enough to make up for the flaws. He IS captain Jack. Paul Bettany is ok, though I prefer him in A Knight's Tale and Beautiful Mind. The acting on the whole is great, but the lack of actions and flow of the plot make Master and Commander less of a sea epic. Watch the movie (if u haven't) but dun expect too much.

LOTR Personality Test
You are most like Aragorn (Stryder) Son of Arathorn

Aragorn's decisions often seem against conventional wisdom, but he knows what to do and why it must be done, regardless of the cost.
You are good at making contingency plans and come up wiith efficient means to acheive clear-cut ends. You are highly independent, and continue on with your plans even in the face of data that might suggest to others that it's no longer feasible. Time alone is important and solitary activities refresh you. You have a tendency to introspection. In your desire for clarity in life, you may have the tendency of being remote or even "heartless". You try to schedule your life as much as possible. You tend to finish your work before resting.
As the foil to Aragorn, Sauron clearly embodies the evil side of this personality.
Traits: Pragmatic, autonomous, ingenious, resolute. On the dark side you could desire power and domination.

Hmm.. although I like Aragorn but I dun think my character is quite like him.. I tend to rest before I do my work haha.. well nevertheless it's cool to be of king material heh.

Le Papillon

Heartwarming movie about the friendship of an old man (Julien) and a little ger (Elsa). Behind the jokes there are some hidden lessons to be learnt. One thing i like about french movies is their witty dialogues. They are a lot more funnier and original than the usual Hollywood movies.
Lothlorien
This song sounds really magical.. makes you feel that you are really in Lothlorien (the place where Lady Galadriel lives). Can't wait for Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King to come out.
Cycling
Went cycling at Pulau Ubin yesterday with Min and the Teh Tarik Gang. The last time I went Pulau Ubin was in secondary during St John hike. Nothing much has changed there. It was raining by the time we got there, so the tracks were pretty muddy. After the whole thing, everyone of us were splattered with mud. Luckily there weren't many mosquitoes around. On the whole it was quite fun. It was my 2nd cycling trip! The 1st one was the night cycling with the windsurfers. If the night cycling were to be considered as a test of endurance, then this Pulau Ubin one was a test of difficulty - terrain test. The tracks were so bumpy and slopy that I had to keep getting down to push my bicycle. Guess I still need to brush up on my cycling skills. Can't wait for the next cycling 'test'.

Fanfan La Tulipe

Contrary to the low rating it has in the IMDB website, i found myself enjoying this movie a lot. Though the plot is the usual predictable one-man show who saves the world and gets the girl of his dreams, Fanfan (pronounced as "fong-fong" and not "fang-fang" like what Penelope Cruz did in the show) is highly entertaining with some of its tongue-in-cheek jokes. Remake of the original 1907 Fanfan. Watch it if u're out to enjoy and relax.
Neneh Cherry and Youssou N'Dour - 7 Seconds
My all-time fav 90's song. Multi-lingual song with anti-racism message. The melody is haunting.
Neneh Cherry is actually the sister of Eagle Eye Cherry and Titiyo. Weird names they have in the Cherry family.

The Matrix Revolutions

Not as bad as i tot. Better than the ultra crappy and trying-to-act-chimz Matrix Reloaded but definitely not as good as the original Matrix. More action scenes though not as impressive and nouveau as the Matrix 1. The fighting machines used by the Zionites look a bit comical though. Reminds mi of transformers. But i still feel that the Wachowski brothers should stop at Matrix 1. The sequels really kinda "hua4 she2 tian1 zu2" (adding legs to a snake, i.e. redundant and spoil the whole picture). Anyway, watch Matrix 3 on a $6.50 day.

Love Test - Animal Test (from Shacko's blog)
1. You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.
2. In the process of courtship, the approach that would make you feel irresistable is straight-forward, just tell you he/she loves you.
3. The impression you would like to give to your lover is loyal, faithful, never change.
4. What you hate most in your partner is that the person is ruthless, cold-blooded, and/or ironic.
5. The kind of relationship you would like to build with your partner is one that you care not only about the present but also the future with your partner, a long-lasting relationship that you can grow with.
6. You care about the society and morality, you won't do anything wrong after marriage.
7. You always want to get married, but in fact, you don't even know what it really is.
8. At this moment, you think of love as a committment for both parties.

Hmm.. ard 75% accurate.

Roxette - You Don't Understand Me
One of my fav Roxette songs. Sad song. Thought these few lines of lyrics are quite poignant:
...We said 'Goodnight' but the silence was so thick
you could cut it with a knife...

...When you kiss my mouth and you hold my body close,
do you wonder who's inside?...
Meat
http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=mym2002
Have been refraining from meat these couple of days ever since i saw this video. It's really sickening to see how the farmers torture the animals like that. Simply inhuman.
Matchstick Men

Caught this show with min on Sunday. Hmm.. so-so ordinary plot. Maybe cos i'm clever enough to guess the development of the plot, so not much surprises. Nicholas Cage is as good as ever with his role as a con-man cum cleanliness freak. Also stars Sam Rockwell (he's the bad guy in The Green Mile). Tot Alison Lohman acted well in the show, quite like her.

Coldplay - The Scientist
Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to the start
Running in circles, coming in tales
Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start

I was just guessing at numbers and figures
Pulling your puzzles apart
Questions of science, science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

And tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh, and I rush to the start
Running in circles, chasing tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh, it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start

Melancholic song. Loved the piano background. Need to listen a few times to love this song.

Kill Bill: Vol.1

Perhaps i heard too many good comments and read good reviews about this show, so i kinda had high expectations for it. But it turned out to be pretty disappointing. Well first Quentin Tarantino movie i've watched. Maybe i'm not used to his style. No doubt the story telling is unique. However the plot is pretty lame. A few loopholes. The fighting scenes are pretty gory at first, but after a while i sort of got used to it. It even becomes a bit funny as blood keep splattering over and over again in the same style (a la happy tree friends). Overall, i think it's an American movie trying too hard to be Japanese-style. Not exactly bad, but definitely not good either. Or maybe it's jus not my cup of coffee.
Dunno wat's up with the movies these days. I know the ang-mos are always impressed with the chinese kung-fu and stuff lidat. But there's too much of these sort of movies. First it's the Matrix, then Kill Bill. Boring. And yeah, i can't stand the idea of "a blonde chick trying to be a samurai".

Aqualung - Strange and Beautiful
I've been watching your world from afar
I've been trying to be where you are
And I've been secretly falling apart
Unseen
To me, you're strange and you're beautiful
You'd be so perfect with me
But you just can't see
You turn every head but you don't see me

I'll put a spell on you
You fall asleep
When I put a spell on you
And when I wake you I'll be the first thing you see
And you'll realise that you love me

Sometimes the last thing you want comes in first
Sometimes the first thing you want never comes

But I know that waiting is all you can do
Sometimes

Magical lyrics. Reminds mi of Midsummer Night's Dream.

1. Project for my only module - due on 20th Oct (takes up 45% of the grade)
2. HYP (to start documenting my algorithm)
3. Website Prototype (for my fren)

Despite all these stuff, I still find myself slacking. It's okay when there are people to slack and play ard with u. It's bad when there aren't. While everyone is busy mugging for exams & working, I'm wasting my time away doing nothing. Inertia to do work. Inertia even to do other stuff like swimming & roller-blading. U2 - Electrical Storm
The sea it swells like a sore head
And the night, it is aching
Two lovers lie with no sheets on their bed
And the day, it is breaking
On rainy days we'd go swimming out
On rainy days, swimming in the sound
On rainy days we'd go swimming out
You're in my mind
All of the time
I know that's not enough
If the sky can crack
There must be some way back
For love and only love

Car alarm
Won't wrench him back to sleep
You kept awake
Dreaming someone else's dream
Coffee is cold
But it'll get you through
Compromise
That's nothing new to you
Let's see colors that have never been seen
Let's go to places no one else has been
You're in my mind
All of the time
I know that's not enough
If the sky can crack
There must be some way back
To love and only love

Electrical storm (x3)
Baby don't cry

It's hot as hell, honey, in this room
Sure hope the weather will break soon
The air is heavy, heavy as a truck
Hope the rain will wash away our bad luck
The sky can crack
There must be some way back
For love and only love

Electrical storm (x3)
Baby don't cry (x2)
Oh baby don't cry (x2)

Magical song.

Caught this movie finally! In Starlight Cinema at Fort Canning with Shacko, Funny, Evon and Babe. The few of us were the guilty ones making the most noise among the crowd giggling and laughing madly hee. But who cares? We're out there to enjoy ourselves.
The show is soooo sweeeet.. awwww... Kate Hudson is so cute, charming, confident and sexy (ok, minus the figure part) and i simply love her yellow gown! And her pout! I'm so glad that i caught the show in the end.. missed the screenings in cinemas...
This show is a must-watch for all the romantic comedy lovers!

Duran Duran - Come Undone
Mine, immaculate dream made breath and skin
I've been waiting for you
Signed, with a home tattoo,
Happy birthday to you was created for you
(Can't ever keep from falling apart
At the seams
Can't I believe you're taking my heart
To pieces)
Oh, it'll take a little time,
Might take a little crime
To come undone now
We'll try to stay blind
To the hope and fear outside
Hey child, stay wilder than the wind
And blow me in to cry
(CHORUS)
Who do you need, who do you love
When you come undone
(repeat)
Words, playing me deja vu
Like a radio tune I swear I've heard before
Chill, is it something real
Or the magic I'm feeding off your fingers
(Can't ever keep from falling apart
At the seams
Can I believe you're taking my heart
To pieces)
Lost, in a snow filled sky, we'll make it alright
To come undone now

Pirates of the Caribbean

Johnny Depp: He has a knack for appearing in so-called "alternative" movies. Caught him in the terrible flop The Ninth Gate and i've been condemning his movies ever since. However, in this movie, he steals the show as Captain Jack Sparrow with his tongue-in-cheek jokes.
Orlando Bloom: While all the gers are swooning over the fair n blond n clean-shaven Legolas in LOTR, i mus admit i only have eyes for Aragorn. But in this movie, Orlando Bloom looks so rugged n manly in his dark hair n his goatie. Stylo.
Keira Knightley: While i was watching the movie, i tried to recall (but to no avail) which movie i had seen her in before. Only after the show then i overheard some gers saying that she was one of the leads in Bend It Like Beckham. Tot she was cool in that BILB, now found her sweet n beautiful in this one.

My Brain Usage Profile (from evon & tukie)
Auditory : 47%
Visual : 52%
Left : 76%
Right : 23%
chilli, you are somewhat left-hemisphere dominant with a balanced preference for auditory and visual inputs. Because of your "centrist" tendencies, the distinctions between various types of brain usage are somewhat blurred.
Your tendency to be organized and logical and attend to details is reasonably well-established which should afford you success regardless of your chosen field of endeavor, unless it requires total spontaneity and ability to improvise, your weaker traits. However, you are far from rigid or overcontrolled. You possess a degree of individuality, perceptiveness, and trust in your intuition to function at much more sophisticated levels than most.
Having given sufficient attention to detail, you can readily perceive the larger aspects and implications of a situation or of learning. You are functional and practical, but can blend abstraction and theory into your framework readily.
The equivalence of your auditory and visual learning orientation gives you two equally effective sensory input systems, each with distinctive features. You can process both unidimensionally and multidimen- sionally with equal facility. When needed, you sequence material while at other times you "intake it all" and store it for processing later.
Your natural ability to use your senses is also synthesized in your way of learning. You can be reflective in your approach, absorbing material in a non-aggressive manner, and at other times voracious in seeking out stimulation and experience.
Overall you tend to be somewhat more critical of yourself than is necessary and avoid enjoying life too much because of a sense of duty. You feel somewhat constrained and tend to sometimes restrict your expressiveness. In any given situation, you will opt for the rational, and learning of almost any type should be easy for you. You might need certain ideas explained to you in order to fit them into your scheme of things, but you're at least open to that!

Robert Miles - One and One
The sky isn't always blue
The sun doesn't always shine
It's alright to fall apart sometimes, mmm
I am not always you
And you are not always mine
It's alright to fall apart sometimes
After all is said and done
One and one still is one
When we cry, when we laugh
I am half, you are half
The heart isn't always true
And I am not always fine
We all have an angry heart sometimes
Look how far we have come
One and one still is
One moon (one moon)
One star (one star)
I love the one we are
One thread (one thread)
One line (one line)
Let's stand still in time
One moon (one moon)
One star (one star)
I love the one we are
One thread (one thread)
One line (one line)
That runs through our lives
Look how far we have come
One and one still is one ah
Ooh

loved the vocals of Maria Nayler in this song..

I Don't Want To Get Hurt

In everything I see you appear with me, how come? How come?
And everything I do involves you too. We are like one.
In my life there has been so many changes
and I don't want to be left out in the rain

I don't want to get hurt, I've done my time.
All I want from you is to tell the truth.
I don't want to get hurt no more this time.
I don't want to go blind and find it's falling apart all the time

In the middle of a dream you are there for me, your face, your lips.
But there's no way you can tell cos I hide it really well, so well.
In my life there has been loving and lying
and I don't need another reason to cry

I don't want to get hurt...
I don't want to go blind and find I'm falling apart one more time.

Mood: Happy ('',)

LXG

Caught the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Shan't say it's a good show, but since i watched it free (due to 2 kind souls who gave mi n my fren free tix at the very last min), it's not too bad either.
The plot (if there is) is basically crappy. The movie dun flow too well.. but the action n gadgets save the movie.
I'm however interested to read/recall again the individual stories of the different characters: Captain Nemo and his stylo Nautilus (20,000 Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne), Dorian Gray (The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde), Allan Quartermain, Skinner the Invisible Man, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Mina Harker.
Something to keep mi occupied for this slack sem.

Sports
Feeling hyper after swimming today. Actually lazy to pull myself out of bed to go at first, but i'm glad i went in the end. Had been lazing and nuaing so much this week. Now i realise that sports really do wonders. Make you perk up and energetic.
Mars
MARK AUGUST 27th ON YOUR CALENDAR
MARS WILL APPEAR AS BIG AS THE MOON!
FIRST TIME IN AT LEAST 5,000 YEARS!

Never again in your lifetime will the Red Planet be so spectacular!
This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars, an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history.

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years but it may be as long as 60,000 years.

On August 27, Mars will come within 34,649,589 miles and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of - 2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.

Share with your friends, children and grandchildren.
No one alive today will ever see this again!

Sway
playing on winamp: bic runga - sway

Don't stray, don't ever go away
I should be much too smart for this
You know it gets the better of me
Sometimes, when you and I collide
I fall into an ocean of you, pull me out in time
Don't let me drown, let me down
I say it's all because of you
And here I go, losing my control
I'm practising your name so I can say it to your face
It doesn't seem right, to look you in the eye
Let all the things you mean to me
Come tumbling out my mouth
Indeed it's time to tell you why
I say it's infintely true

love the melody and lyrics. american pie soundtrack. din catch the show though.

Milk and toast and honey make it sunny on a rainy Saturday, he-he-hey
Milk and toast, some coffee take the stuffiness out of days you hate, you really hate
Slow morning news pass me by
I try not to analyze but didn't he blow my mind this time
Didn't he blow my mind?

(Here he comes)
To bring a little lovin', honey
To take away the hurt inside
Is everything that matters to me
Is everything I want in life

Milk and toast and honey
Ain't it funny how things sometimes look so clear and feel so near
The dreams I dream, my favourite wishful thinkin'
Oh, he's bookmarked everywhere, everywhere
True love might fall from the sky
You never know what to find but didn't he blow my mind this time
Didn't he blow my mind?

(Here he comes)
To bring a little lovin', honey
To take away the pain inside
Is everything that matters to me
Is everything I want from life

Oh lay a little lovin', honey
To feel you're gettin' close to me
Is everything that matters to me
Is everywhere I wanna be
